Spanish ECE Courses

Fishers Island School offers two college-level Spanish ECE (Early College Experience) courses which are offered in cooperation with the University of Connecticut. Students may take these courses in the 12th grade for 3 college credits each.

In the fall semester, eligible students may take the ECE Intermediate Spanish Composition course, which involves reading and analyzing selected short stories by Spanish and Latin American authors and provides an opportunity for students to improve their essay-writing skills via methodical practice in composition.

In the spring semester, students having successfully completed the Spanish Composition course may take the ECE Spanish Conversation course, which offers the in-depth development of speaking skills and cultural awareness through the reading of short stories, film viewings, group discussions and oral presentations on selected topics concerning the Spanish-speaking world, specifically, of the “magical realism” genre.
